Book Review – Start Finishing: How to Go from Idea to Done

Charlie Gilkey’s new book “Start Finishing: How to Go from Idea to Done” is a great informative read that helps those who are struggling with procrastination by giving some great tips and techniques for actually completing what you’ve started.

The ideas an concepts in this book are a good reminder on how to pave your own path and live just outside of your comfort zone so that your work or projects are more purposeful and give you more fulfillment in getting things done

Gilkey makes the process of getting your projects done simple by showing you how to take an idea and turn it into a doable project.  He teaches how to get over our “head trash” – or the negative stories we tell ourselves that prevent us from from doing our best work.

In this book, common challenges that hold us back are worked through and he shows us step by step how to get through the these most common challenges so that we can cross these hurdles and get back on track in more clear and focused path.

Throughout the book Gilkey shares great snippets from other experts who have written and spoke about getting things done and overcoming obstacles that are in our way.

I really like the questions that he lays out that you need to ask yourself before you start a project, in the middle of a project and at the end of a project.  These questions are a great way to make sure you are starting out on the right foot, that you are staying on track, and then finally making sure that you finish up the project with a bang.

If you are overburdened with multiple tasks and overwhelm has consumed you – this book is for you.   Gilkey shows you how to find your priority tasks and teaches you how to eliminate those tasks that you could do without.  In this book he gives you a step by step formula to show you how to remove projects that are cluttering up your timeline, shows you how to pinpoint the tasks that should be more of a priority in your timeline – and helps eliminate the noise that is preventing you from seeing where your priorities lie.

I found massive value in reading this book, I’m exciting to start implementing the tools and tactics I’ve learned in this book and feel confident that it will lead me to a more clear and concise vision to starting and finishing my projects.
