We arrived at Hofsas House located right in the heart of Carmel, CA and was greeted by very friendly staff who gave us our room key and explained where to park and how to get to our room.
The European Style Inn had a great feel and look as we made our way down the corridors to find our room, each of the hotel rooms have dutch doors which give the hotel an added quaint feel. We found our room #8, which is one of the first and original hotel rooms of the Inn. The inside of the room was warm and welcoming with a beautiful brick fireplace and beautiful blue quilted bedding on a king size bed. We did ask for 2 queen beds during our stay, unfortunately they were sold out for the weekend.
The bed was extremely comfortable, the pillows were soft and fluffy and the sheets were white and cozy.
We were able to hang our clothes in the closet, which had an ironing board, extra pillows and a blanket. When I stepped into the bathroom I immediately noticed that the flooring was heated and after look at the temperature gauge saw that it was set to 84 degrees. This was ecstasy for our very cold feet.
We were also greeted with a wine and cheese pairing that awaited us on the small table located between two dark
blue accent chairs. The cheese was incredible and went so well with the wine. Our favorite was the East of Edamcheese. Both of the cheeses came from The Cheese shop in Carmel by the Sea.
The next morning we met in the lobby of the hotel that had a beautiful copper fireplace and had a continental breakfast with flavorful coffee and danish pastries. They also offered fresh fruit and yogurt.
We were able to meet Carrie Theis the owner of the hotel who gave us a detailed history of Carmel and the Hofsas House and gave us great tips on where to go during our stay. Before we left the lobby to start our day, the hotel loaned us their binoculars to take with us to go sight seeing.
Once we grabbed our things from our room, we headed out to Point Lobos National Park. We made a quick stop at 5th Avenue Deli and grabbed 2 Classic Picnic baskets which included: A turkey sandwich, chips, pasta salad and your choice of brownie or lemon bar. When we got there the park was full and we had to park outside of the park along the side of the road.
We decided to get out our picnic lunch and eat it in the car as we didn’t want to carry it through the park. The lunch was so filling and everything tasted outstanding. You know the food is good when your full and you can’t stop eating because it just tastes so good.
We finally made our way into the park and took the easy access trail to Whaler’s cove and then to whaler’s cottage, which provides a great history on the Whalers from long ago…
We went back to the hotel and decided to do a wine tasting at Vino Napoli and also got artichoke pop appetizers.
Just a few buildings down we tried on hats at Prestige Hat Shop. We both loved the hats we tried on but the price tags were a little high. We then Headed to Tarpys for an exquisite dinner.
Parking at the hotel at night was completely full but we found a spot on one of the side streets not too far away.
After we checked out of the hotel at 12 pm, we took the 17-mile drive and stopped to take pictures of picturesque coast and white sanded beaches.
Carmel is full of interesting history, architecture and has many great art galleries, wine tasting rooms and boutiques to enjoy.
Hofsas House definitely made this trip very comfortable and welcoming. I will definitely be stopping again at Hofsas House for any future trips to Carmel.
