4 Inspiring Takeaways We Can Learn From “Return to Glow”

Return-to-glowReturn to Glow by Chandi Wyant

I found Chandi Wyant’s journey of Transformation an inspirational read with many inspiring takeaways.  Chandi is a college history professor who after going through a divorce and a traumatic illness found a need to reconnect with herself.  She sets out on a 40-day journey, taking Italy’s Historic Pilgrimage route on the way to Rome.

What she finds is a way to let go of her fixed expectations, learning how to trust and follow her heart and embracing her courage as she lets go of fear.

4 Inspiring Takeaways We Can Learn From “Return to Glow”

  1. Get out of your comfort zone

Dare to travel somewhere that might feel like a push, either due to distance, lack of familiar amenities, foreign languages are spoken or challenging natural conditions.

Be willing to step outside your comfort zone once in a while; take the risks in life that seem worth taking. The ride might not be as predictable if you’d just planted your feet and stayed put, but it will be a heck of a lot more interesting. Edward Whitacre, Jr.

  2. Leave fear behind

There tends to be a culture of fear around travel – particularly overseas. Ignore the noise. Dig down and face the challenges. Chances are they’ll be no more than minor inconveniences, such as getting lost or having to shake off a stranger who’s trying to be too friendly.

It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live. Marcus Aurelius

  3. Go solo

Nothing opens the mind and heart to a spiritual experience like solitude. It may not always be easy, and there will undoubtedly be some lonesome, wistful moments, but it is these very moments that allow a spiritual journey to unfold.

Your inner voice is the voice of divinity. To hear it, we need to be in solitude, even in crowded places. A. R. Rahman

  4. Take the time to listen to your heart

Having a schedule is helpful, but taking your time, going with the flow and making unexpected choices from the heart are vital to connecting with the spiritual gifts your journey holds.

You’ll never find peace of mind until you listen to your heart. George Michael

I’ve yet to experience traveling alone.  This is something I would like to start doing more of.  I feel I can learn so much more about myself by incorporating the inspiring takeaways above.  What are your thoughts on traveling solo?  Let us know in the comments below.

Thanks Sara! I really like that quote too! There is so much life out there to discover. I’ve been wanting to go back to Europe and keep thinking that going solo would help me discover so much more about myself. Thanks for your comment.

Traveling alone is so rewarding, and it doesn’t have to be exotic to be fulfilling. Even solo road trips around my state help me remember who I am and how I want to “do” the next phase of my life. Bon voyage to us all!
