Review : Zboost ( Increase your Cell Phone’s Signal)

by Jamie Hackbarth

The worst thing that can happen while taking an important phone call is to have it be dropped right in the middle of conversation. It is irritating and sometimes I find myself talking to no one because I did not know that my call was dropped. I then have to go outside to finish taking my call because my phone seems to have better signal outside! What a pain!!!! I was excited to review the Wi-Ex z-Boost YX545 SOHO cell phone signal booster. I waited impatiently to have my husband install the Wi-Ex z-Boost YX545 cellular signal booster, or repeater. He was gone on business for two weeks so I just stared at the box.

It was a fairly easy to install from what I observed. I think I could have done it by myself!!! The package includes everything you need: base unit, base unit antenna, power supply, low-loss SATV coaxial cable RG-59 (mini), signal antenna and mounting hardware. The omni-directional signal antenna receives signals from multiple cell towers. There are all kinds of devices out there varying from $250 to $1,000, depending on how much they can increase the signal. But for a home or small office up to 3000 square feet, the YX545 model is perfect.

It works best when you attach the signal antenna on the roof or attic but there are way easier ways and we found that by placing it outside of the window.  They work by first capturing cell signals through an external antenna, ideally affixed to the roof of a dwelling. A coaxial cable then transmits the signal inside the house to an amplifier and internal antenna, which strengthen and retransmit it to cell phones.
I had two bars of signal in my home and now I have full signal!!! I am glad that I  can walk around my whole home now with full strength reception!!! You can find all the info about the different models on http://www.wi-ex.com/YX545.aspx

The Wi-Ex’s $399 zBoost SOHO YX545, increases an indoor signal over 3,000 square feet and is a popular model that can support multiple phones. The device is available from electronics stores and online retailers like Amazon. Did you know that boosters are used in hundreds of federal, state and local government offices nationwide including police, fire and public transportation departments? Examples include New York City Transit and several offices of the Department of Homeland Security.
